Mentoring
Rachel offers mentoring for adults writing cozy mysteries, and creative writing talks and workshops for adults and young adults. She has tutored for Bristol University, run workshops in a variety of community settings and run a cozy mystery writing retreat.
Mentoring
I offer mentoring to new writers or more experienced writers needing some coaching. Zoom sessions can include discussing notes, issues, concerns, general troubleshooting on the latest stage of work (up to 10,000 words max if submitting a text excerpt), generating ideas and planning ahead for the next stage. I will also follow up with an email summarising our discusson and my advice.
· Read up to 10k words, email feedback, then Zoom call (one hour) - £250
· Coaching Zoom call with no editorial prep - £75 (up to one hour). To discuss progress, queries, issues or concerns that have come up, blockages, ideas, ways of planning ahead, etc.
Manuscript Assessment
I will read a full-length manuscript and give editorial feedback on structure, pacing, character development, basic layout and use of language. I will provide a written report of at least 1000 words, and a Zoom call of up to an hour to discuss.
· £565 up to 70k, written report and Zoom (up to one hour).
Submission Package
A specialised one-off session focusing on advice and guidance on your submission for agents. I will read your first three chapters (or 5k words), synopsis and any covering letter or email text in advance. During the one-to-one Zoom session, I will provide detailed feedback and guidance based on my industry knowledge on how to optimise your submission.
· Written feedback on covering letter, synopsis and up to 5k words or 3 chapters, plus Zoom call of up to an hour - £250, with each additional hour (to review revised submission, if required) at £200.
Workshops
I deliver creative writing talks and workshops to adults and young people in schools, community centres and libraries, and can offer a range of sessions, or develop tailor-made talks or workshops to suit, including:
· Crime stories, including cozy crime
· Structure and plot
· Character development & dialogue
· A Sense of Place
· Themed sessions
Fees start at £250 for a one-hour session.

Events
I have appeared on panels at a variety of literary and crime festivals, including Edinburgh, Hay and Bath, and am happy to chair as well as be a participant. I can also work with festival organisers to put together interesting panels of engaging speakers, most recently on cozy crime.
